Yuta Okuda, "Abstract Flowers" (Silver x Colourful)
On the occasion of its 40th anniversary, interior design company GARDE has opened a new art gallery in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood, "GoCA (Gallery of Contemporary Art) by Garde," on January 30, 2025. Spanning 2,400 square feet, "GoCA by Garde" serves as a base for promoting Japanese and Asian artists to the U.S. and the world through a diverse range of contemporary artworks, including paintings, sculptures, and ceramics.
In particular, the exhibition features artworks by artists who have not had many opportunities to be introduced in the U.S. and plays an important role in sparking a new trend in the New York art scene and promoting Japanese and Asian contemporary art to the rest of the world.
The opening "GoCA by Garde" exhibition features the latest "Flowers" series by Yuta Okuda, a young artist representing contemporary Japanese neo-pop. Okuda's works, with their powerful brush strokes, vivid colors, and delicate lines, express the fragility and beauty of existence and the exquisite harmony of "coincidence" and "inevitability."

Okuda depicts the idea of "being thankful for the happiness we have now," symbolized by a single flower. The influence of his grandfather, a gardener, naturally instilled in her the habit of giving flowers to those close to him, and the preciousness of everyday life, which he was reminded of after the coronavirus disaster, is now expressed through the motif of flowers. This exhibition allows viewers to share the precious happiness of the casual time spent with one's family through Okuda's works.
