【ADF Web Magazine】Life in an old Japanese house Vol.7 Japanese homes’ “Tokonoma” pt. 2 A report by AKIHIRO YAMAMOTO, artist known for his art installation from abandoned houses and also works as a renovator of old Japanese houses and small businesses. In his seventh volume (part 2) of his report series on old Japanese house, he explains how the usage and characteristics of the "tokonoma" has changed during the course of the history.

ADF Milano Salone Design Award 2021 NPO Aoyama Design Forum (ADF) has organized the ADF Milano Salone Design Award 2021 and announced the winners for the award on its website on 25 January, 2021. Congratulations to the winners; Takuto Ohta (the Best Performance Award) , Boey Wang (Outstanding Performance Award winners) and Alexander Schul (Outstanding Performance Award winners).

VASE NA by Bo Zhang "VASE NA" by a contemporary artist and designer, Bo Zhang, is to integrate the lines and color into the space and present the seemingly existing space, but there is no actual existence. Usually vase is container with borders. VASE NA’s design use white frame，color paint，pattern, and angle transformation to break the inherent space constraints, color constitute the body of vase， embodying sense of depth，change and realism. The concept between virtual and real: create a vase in space with gradient colors from different small frames. But the vase does not exist, it is just a space with color, which creates a sense of space but no boundaries. Different experiences of angle transformation: Moving the line of sight, the color of the vase will change. changing the perspective, the interwoven frame structure will produce depth, level changes and 3D effects. These design elements have led people to a “visual roaming”.

ADF Participated in the SDGs for Regional Revitalization Public-Private Partnership Platform The NPO Aoyama Design Forum (ADF) has participated in the SDGs for Regional Revitalization Public-Private Partnership Platform established by the Cabinet Office with the aim of promoting efforts toward SDGs. The "SDGs for Regional Revitalization Public-Private Partnership Platform" aims to promote the domestic implementation of SDGs by the Cabinet Office. It is a platform established in 2018 as a place for public-private partnership. As of the end of January 2021, 4,558 organizations have participated it.

【ADF Web Magazine】Ahsa Farmstay Vernacular Architecture Plays a Huge Role in Sustainable Tourism Ahsa Farmstay offers tourists from all over the world to be hosted in the farm stay in Chiang Rai, northern Thailand. This project allowed the architects to consider a relationship between architecture and culture. In Chiang Rai, as in other rural areas of the country, traditional building techniques are not passed down from generation to generation. As people's life styles are changing, their traditional homes are becoming less relevant. Vernacular houses are either improperly adapted to "modern extensions" or dismantled and sold as recycled wood.

Singapore News February 2021 We have received a new report supported by GARDE! “NEON PIGEON”, a restaurant & bar modeled on an izakaya, opened at Carpenter Street in Singapore at the end of last year. It is a space that used recycled rebar from Singapore construction sites and oxidized perforated metal. And guests will be welcomed by a “NEON PIGEON” sign in Japanese text, made with many small bulbs.

【ADF Web Magazine】New Light Installation in Amsterdam The light installation Het Licht van Jan (Jan's light) was unveiled in an industrial traffic underpass near Amsterdam's city center. In the artwork by Matthias Oostrik, passersby activate surging light projections that illuminate the narrow sidewalk and weathered walls of the underpass.
